The area mainly consists of fields cultivated with arable land, affected by a network of ditches and drains for the draining of surface waters. In the area there is an artificial pond of about 7 hectares, mainly managed for hunting purposes. The area, in the part of public property (approximately 5 hectares), has undergone environmental recovery interventions for naturalistic purposes, through the creation of an educational pond and a hydrophilic forest, with a prevalence of black alder, English oak, oxyphilous ash and poplar White.
Flora and fauna
On the banks of the pond there is a band of reeds with a swamp straw and a herringbone pattern. Interesting from a botanical point of view is the riparian vegetation of helophytic and hydrophyte species in the ditches along via del Pantano and near the clear of hunting. The arboreal vegetation is mainly composed of white poplar, in addition to hawthorn, dog rose, field elm and complying maple. In the schools of the fields there are the watercress, the common white snail, the water carnation, the aquatic veronica and the aquatic iris.
Among the species of wild birds present in the area, we remember the gray lairone, the egret, the great white lairone, various species of Anatidae and waders. Among the nesting species, the cavalier of Italy, the marzaiola and the dip. In the didactic pond, the nesting of the small courier, the kestrel and the red-headed laver is reported. During the pass and in the summer, the marsh harrier and the biancone can be observed. Numerous amphibians are present in the area (emerald toad, green frog, tree frog, crested newt and dotted newt).
